Helsinki Stockholm Ferry reviews

  • "Ship itself was great, some problems with direct ferries!"

Everything about Silja Symohony was of their usual, great standard. Ships are clean and punctual and I was glad to see they’ve done updating of their economy class cabins which are perfectly adequate for the crossing to Stockholm and back. BUT we did have a problem with our booking. Nowhere on our booking from direct ferries was it made clear this was not a single smooth booking and we would have to check out in Stockholm and check back in again later on (meaning we could not keep our things in our cabin, a major inconvenience when we are just visiting Stockholm for a day trip and have to lug around heavy baggage). This is not the fault of Silja but would have cost €70 to rectify. It would have been nice to have some indication of this somewhere before booking or at least on confirmation of booking.

Helsinki Guide

Located in the Uusimaa region of southern Finland, on the shores of the Gulf of Finland, is the city of Helsinki. The capital of Finland is roughly 80 km to the north of Tallinn in Estonia, 400 km to the north of Stockholm in Sweden and 300 km to the west of St Petersburg in Russia. Helsinki is widely regarded as one of the major cities in northern Europe and is the country's main hub for politics, finance, commerce and culture.

Popular visitor attractions in the city include Helsinki's largest museum, the National Museum of Finland. It contains a large collection of historical artefacts that date back to prehistoric times through to the present day. The museum's home, a neomedieval castle, is also a popular tourist attraction in its own right. The Helsinki City Museum, the Finnish National Gallery and the Design Museum are three other museums in the city that are worth visiting.

Helsinki's port, the largest in Finland and the second largest in the Nordic countries, has three harbours and 6 passenger terminals. Ferry services using the port depart to Stockholm in Sweden, Travemunde in Germany and Tallinn in Estonia.

Stockholm Guide

Stockholm is the capital city of Sweden and is made up of a series of islands located on Sweden's eastern coast and is widely regarded as one of the world's most beautiful cities. There are many picturesque scenes to be had in the city and its skyline is reflected in the waters of Lake Malaren and enjoys vibrant blue summer skies whilst in the winter the city is often covered by snow and is scattered by lovely lights.

The extremely modern city is known for its design, fashion and lively nightlife but has still managed to preserve its roots in the Old Town area known as the Gamla Stan, where you can quite easily lose yourself in history. The city's maze of cobbled streets is based around the Stortorget, the Big Square, whilst to the south and on a further island, the Sodermalm, offers a definite bohemian atmosphere with its many galleries and historic residences and lovely waterfront.

From the city's port, ferries depart to destinations in Finland, Russia and the Baltic States.
